Love2learn Policies

1. Absolutely no affiliate links.

2. Available From Info:Wherever possible, we send people to Catholic retailers to purchase books and materials. Only list the publisher in the "available from" line if you can't find another option. If you're not sure, drop Alicia a note and she'll do the appropriate searches to find out who carries it.

3. Not appropriate for review on our site: Books on politics, cookbooks (with the exception of children's cookbooks or special cookbooks relating to literature, the liturgical year or things like that), books about medicine/medical options, books about clothing/modesty, or popular Christian/Catholic music.

4. Limited appropriateness to our site: (because there are way too many out there for us to deal with) parenting books, prayer books. It's hard to define the lines on these. Let's chat about it if you're not sure.

5. Finding Book Cover Pictures on the Web: With few exceptions, you need to pick up the book cover picture from the publisher's website or scan it in yourself. If you're having trouble finding it online, let me know and I'll see if I can find one.

6. Exclusions: Please don't review books that you wrote, illustrated, published, sell or that was written/published by a relative of yours.

7. Love2learn does not make any political endorsements of any kind.

Review Details: Book Binding Types

This is a page in progress - please e-mail me at webmaster@love2learn.net with questions, suggestions or clarifications. I'm hoping to find links to pictures and illustrations to make things clearer.

N/A - If you have something other than a book, keep this box checked.

Sewn Softcover:

This is a book with sewn signatures - something more common in hardcover books, but a welcome feature in softcovers that
improves durability (and often increases the price).

Softcover:

Think of this as the category for "quality softcovers". This often includes a higher quality paper, a thicker cover and a better glue than the Mass-Market Paperbacks. Most softcover workbooks fall into this category. This category includes books with "perfect binding" and "lay-flat binding".

Paperback:

This includes Mass-Market paperbacks (your typical "pocket-sized" paperback novel from a bookstore ) and other inferior binding on softcovers.

Spiralbound:

Comb-bound:

Stapled Softcover:

Sewn Hardcover:

Traditionally, your typical hardcover would be sewn in signatures, made to last a long time. A lot of mass-market hardcovers are not.

Glued Hardcover:

This is an insult for a reason. Don't mark something in this category unless you're certain - the signatures *can* be rather difficult to see.

Loose-leaf (binder-ready):

Three whole-punched papers.

For unusual bindings on books, please use this category.

Review Details: Supplier (Available From) Info

I have disabled this field in the current iteration of the site, based on everyone's feedback. The information previously entered is still in the DB; however, it has not been updated in a long time. This field will probably be removed altogether in the fairly near future.

Most items will be carried one or more of the suppliers listed in the "Available From" field; in these cases, simply select some appropriate suppliers. (Use Cntl-click to select more than one.)

However, some suppliers only provide a single item or product line (or at least only one item / line that is appropriate for our site). In these cases, please provide the supplier information at the bottom of the review itself, preferably using the following wording / styling:

Advent: Around the Year with the Trapp Family

Did you know that the real Von Trapp family (made famous in the movie Sound of Music) were particularly fond of celebrating the Liturgical Year and in fact wrote a book about it? Here is the Advent portion.

Christmas Carol Unit Study with Picture Books

In finding out more about the carols I looked for resources that told the history of the carols as well as ones that brought the carol’s lyrics to life for my children in picture books. I am looking for a local copy of the out of print book, Christ and the Carols by William Reynolds in hopes of supplimenting information from the Collins books and the internet.

To share this fun topic with my family, particularly the younger children, we have embarked on a study of carols. We are hoping to not only enjoy the joyous music during these 12 days of Christmas, but to learn more about the songs and their history and the musicians behind them while enjoying some lovely picture books each day.
