Good Discipline, Great Teens

Author(s):
Dr. Ray Guarendi

In his latest book, Dr. Ray Guarendi offers more of his time-tested advice (Discipline That Lasts a Lifetime 2003, You're a Better Parent Than You Think 1985, DVD 2006) on raising children, but this time with a focus entirely on the teenage years. In question and answer format, Dr. Ray discusses teens and jobs, driving, dating, disrespect, sibling struggles and more.

de-coding Da Vinci

Book cover: 'de-coding Da Vinci: The facts behind the fiction of The Da Vinci Code'
Author(s):
Amy Welborn

The 2003 release of the novel The Da Vinci Code created one of the largest literary crazes in recent history. With sales of almost 6 million in its first year, the novel gained a cult-like following. Author Dan Brown's ability to blend fact and fiction left many readers questioning what they really knew of the origins of Christianity. News is now out that we can expect to see the story in theaters in about a year. Certainly viewers will come away with many of the same questions readers had as to how much, if any, of the story line is factual, and how much is fiction.

Easy Christmas Duets

Book cover: 'Easy Christmas Duets: A Nine-Note Recorder Book'
Author(s):
Penny Gardner

Bravo for another treasure from Penny Gardner! The 40 plus songs in this book provide plenty of material for Christmas programs or supplemental lesson work. Organized according to ease of playing, these pieces presume some prior recorder experience. (For those brand new to the instrument, I highly recommend the original Nine-Note Recorder Method text which includes instruction and 30 familiar Christmas songs.)

Easy Duets For Catholics

Book cover: 'Easy Duets For Catholics: A Nine-Note Recorder Book'
Author(s):
Penny Gardner

This book is a special companion to Penny Gardner's original Nine-Note Recorder Method text. Containing almost 50 traditional Catholic hymns, it offers arrangements suitable for Mass as well as lesson work. Prior recorder experience is assumed.

Nine-Note Recorder Method: Easy Duets for Beginners

Book cover: 'Nine-Note Recorder Method: Easy Duets for Beginners'
Author(s):
Penny Gardner

Whether you are an accomplished musician or a complete novice, this simple, inexpensive book will have you playing beautiful music in less than an hour. (I have children in both categories, and have been unable to pick up the book to review it for almost three months since it's been in constant use!) By learning the nine easiest notes to play, and then playing music in parts, learners at all levels are immediately successful.
